Students and tourists react to Coliseum vandalism

ROME March 9, 2015 — Two American tourists were cited for scratching their initials into the walls of the Coliseum in Rome.   When asked if they believed the girls were vandals or not, one student said, “I don’t think it is cool.” While another person said, “It’s like leaving your mark, I think it’s cool.”

The Coliseum been vandalized before. Last year, a Russian tourist was fined more than $21,000 US for defacing the historical monument with their initials.

Reuters reports that some graffiti dates back to the early Roman times.
